The Concept of Sustainability & Project Management
The term ‘sustainability‘ has been extensively used by politicians, journalists and also in a business environment in recent years. Since the late 2000 years, it was also mentioned and discussed in the context of project management, e.g. by Edum-Fotwe and Price (2008) or Gareis et al. (2009). The three main questions/ objectives of this workshop are as follows:
What is the concept of sustainability (or: sustainable development) and how is it applied in project management/ in single projects?
What kind of contribution to the field of project management could the introduction of sustainability bring about? Does it really add new aspects?
Under which pre-requisites and conditions does the application of the concept of sustainability in project management make sense? Also: Is the concept of sustainability one that would have possibly appeared in a non-internationalized/ non-globalized world?
